lay offs, furloughing staff - what's it mean?

Lay-offs seem to be a hot topic at the moment. Please read through what we have gleaned to help employers/employees. We are in an exceptional situation, and clearly the normal rules must bend, and employees will have to be flexible so that the core of our economy survives this challenge.

Many firms will fold in the next six months, this is a sad predictability / consequence of the restrictions now imposed on society. But the alternative could be over a million extra deaths this year in UK
